First mental/emotional breakdown of the year because of this job, check! Ugh. It’s hard for me to stomach the thought of being at this place for another year. I can only pray that something comes along before then, because I really don’t think it’s good for me. I’m trying so hard to remind myself that it’s only a year, but it seems like so far away. I know it’s only short term, but gosh this feeling sucks.
Deadlift 5-5-5 88(40% of TM)-109(50%)-130(60%) TM=217#
De-load week, taking it easy. Main focus was on form, keeping that back tight and butt down. This video by K-Star really helped me with my form today. Looking into getting a weightlifting belt. Anybody have any thoughts or suggestions?
WOD
3 Rounds:
10 Thrusters (105/70)
15 walking lunges
20 sit-ups
4:10
Goal with this WOD was just to keep moving and do everything unbroken. Thrusters felt alright today, still felt a little tightness in my shoulders and need to drive with the hips more. Pretty satisfied overall. Afterwards, I worked on my ring dip again, I get to the bottom and get stuck. One of these days I'll get them. I also attempted some rope climbs, gotta get the technique down and I think I'll be up that rope in no time. Skill practice every day and I'll make these goals.
Food Log:
Breakfast: 3 eggs with bacon bits, palm full of almonds and an apple. Water. Lunch: 3 oz chicken and some asparagus and 2 squares dark chocolate. Water. Snack: 2 squares dark chocolate. PWO: 6oz protein shake. Dinner: salad with bacon, tomato, and hard boiled egg. 2 squares dark chocolate. Arnold Palmer.
So I’m hoping to get a little more interaction with my blog this time around. I’m hoping to see more comments and discussions either on here or when I post it to FB. So today I’m going to start with goals, inside and outside the gym. Here’s a list of some of them, not really quantifiable and kind of broad, but it’s just giving you an idea:
1. Get a new job.
2. Become a better coach.
3. Be a supportive daughter, girlfriend, friend, coach.
4. Get into the low 150’s high 140’s and maintain it.
5. Work hard at school and get A’s in my classes.
So my questions to you guys are: How can you help me with these goals? Do you have any advice? But more importantly, what are YOUR goals and how can I help you achieve your goals? Whether I’m family, a friend, your coach, or a stranger, I’m here for you, tell me how I can support you!

Hi Kirsten! Like I said yesterday- so excited that you are writing again. You help me with my goals every day because you are such a good example of an awesome athlete and someone who has come so far. I know you have struggled and still do, but that is what makes you so much stronger. I know I will get closer to my goals of losing weight, becoming stronger, and being a better athlete with coaches and friends like you helping me, encouraging me, and leading by example.
I wish I could say I could help you with all of your goals- but I have no new job for you, and am the wrong person to be giving advice on weight loss, however, I am happy to be here for anything you need, and to encourage you along the way, whether its with workouts, class work, or anything at all!

I've thought about getting a weight belt again myself.
I swore them off years ago because I believe it would make my stability weaker learning to depend on a belt to keep me tight. My recent recurring back pain has me rethinking that though. I at least might get one to wear for heavy deadlift and squat days.
If you get one...you gotta go leather. I've never been a fan of the velcro canvas/cordura type belts.
The jury is still out with me and a weight belt. Thought about it, but not convinced it's the right tool for me. Key thought is that I don't want to become dependent on something like a belt to the point where I just need to have it for every workout, in or out of competition and always lift with it. Plus, I believe that the better your positions throughout your lifts, the less you need supportive equipment like a belt. This is my opinion of course, nothing more. Not saying it's right or wrong and, at the same time completely respecting other people's stances. I do agree with Dan, if I ever did do it, I'd go leather. No question.
I won't ask you for your support of me and my goals. You give so much to others so there's no need for you to give to me at all.
You know I'd always do my best to help you. No question. One way to achieve your goals is to better balance the time you spend on YOU (e.g. your "selfish time") and the time you spend helping others. I think you're heart is huge and in the right place. However, would a better balance of "you and others" bring about a more happier or balanced Kir?
Ever hear the saying "The more you talk about something false, the more you want to believe it?" Or "The more you talk and think about something that upsets you a little ends up upsetting you a lot more?"
I think to achieve your goals, you have to bring about a change of approach that keeps consistent with a positive attitude. Asking a question, do you feel your constantly commenting about how much you hate your job or how upset it makes you HELPS your mental well being? We, as your friends, will always do our very best to console you and make you smile, but perhaps that starts with you, Kir. Initially, the quick status updates or short commentary on blogs might help you vett your frustrations, but subconsciously, are they hurting you more than you're aware?
My opinion is that perhaps it is.
Tying this all in, I think the one thing that can keep you from achieving your goals that all directly or indirectly rely on POSITIVE BEHAVIOR and POSITIVE MENTAL ATTITUDE start with your keeping yourself in the right frame of mind. You have a max of 1 year in your current role. Make the most of it. Make the best out of that you can. Embrace the learning experiences, perhaps not in the requirements of the actual job, but perhaps of understanding of how to professionally handle all types of situations and interactions with people that the job brings. Most importantly, eliminate the little vets that might add more weight to your mental state and change them to positives. Simple example:
NEG: "I hate getting up early!"
POS: "Hey, I get to watch the sunrise with a tasty hot cup of coffee."
Perhaps a silly example, but you get the point. Keep it positive as best as you can, eliminate the little vets and perhaps THAT helps you be better in all you do and helps keep you better balanced.
"Think good. Feel good. Execute good."
Remember, we all love ya girl. And we all want to see you happy. In fact, your members that you coach and rely on you want, need and thrive off of seeing you happy.
"Happy Kir = Effective Kir"
You asked. I respond. ;)
Jennie - I'm excited to be blogging again as well. It's like a a release and I'm hoping to get more interaction out of it! Thank you so much for your sweet compliments, it means a lot! You know I'm here for you whenever you need it. Let me know when you want to grab lunch/dinner.
Dan - Thank you for the input, I've had the same thoughts about becoming dependent on it, but would mainly use it for the same reasons, on heavy days. And definitely was going to go the leather route.
Tommy - I know I can always count on you for constructive feedback! :)I completely understand where you're coming from about my current work situation. Sometimes it does help me to get it out when I write about it, but I guess in the end, it doesn't get me anywhere by doing it. It's not getting me a different job or making my job any better. It's more of a release.
I'm trying to work on being positive in all aspects of my life. Old habits are hard to get rid of. And I'm going to do my best to make the most of my current situation.
One day I'll look back on all of this and it will all seem like nothing. And I'm trying to look at it like that. In the end it's only a year that I have to deal with this.
New goal: Say AT LEAST one positive thing about myself/my life on a daily basis.
Do I get Tommy approval on that one?
There you go! That's a much better way of thinking, Kir. You don't need my approval on anything. :)
But suffice to say, I do agree with you, it's NOT easy. But I've always seen you as "The Tough" and right now it's tough for you. Stay positive, keep it positive and things will turn for you.
Right now it's 5:55AM, it's pitch black outside, slightly chilly and I have a 2+ hour commute to the extreme south side of the city for a customer meeting. Don't know about you but I simply can't WAIT for the warm car ride, sipping a hot cup of coffee and watching the sun come up. Glorious! :)
"When the going gets tough....."
Hi Kir! I love reading your blog! Since I can't workout until February, I've decided that I'm going to live vicariously through you and your CrossFit training :o) I of course think you are an all around great person, athlete, and coach! As long as you continue to believe in yourself and have a positive attitude, others will follow you and want to catch your infectious spirit! I look forward to hearing all about your PR's and training as it leads up to the Open this year. I will share with you that my goal is to lose the baby weight and get back to what I weighed before Oliver. I want to get the sugar out of my diet (although it is my signature trait.....haha) and get my strength back so I can become competitive again. I hope to one day achieve over 100kg total on my Oly lifts in a sanctioned meet and be ready for the 2013 CF Games. With this I'll need your help being accountable for my diet and would love to post my eats to you in an email so that someone is keeping tabs on my sugar addiction ;o) I love you girl!!!
K-Tuck, I can definitely do that for you. I'm sure it'll help keep me in check too! :) Let's get you lifting crazy weights overhead again! :)
